Lucid Dreaming, Experiments with Seroquel, Nicotine Patches, & Calea Zachetechichi

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

When I was 19-20 or so I was in a deep depression, did a lot of different drugs, but most importantly had an amazing psychiatrist that prescribed me 5 different meds in the max doses, only two of them weren’t controlled substances (read amphetamines and benzos). He died of an overdose ironically. This episode is about sleep, lucid dreaming, and one of the two non narcotic meds that doctor prescribed me.

I’ve always been fascinated by lucid dreaming, astral projection, and out of body experiences. This is due to my first time taking DXM and having an undeniable OBE at age 16.

Fast forward a few years later to me around age 18 or 19, Waking Life had come out a year or so prior, an all time favorite of mine and re-interested me in lucid dreaming. Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia but is often prescribed as a sleep medication due to its heavy sedative effects and doctors in the us getting paid off by big pharma.

Izvini, that’s a rant for a different time. When used for sleep, Seroquel both causes deep, nearly comatose sleep and vivid dreams. Nicotine patches also cause vivid dreams when worn while sleeping. This was the beginning of my experimentation with dreaming and chemicals and plants that could be used to enhance probability of lucidity while dreaming. I’d take 150mg of Seroquel and slap on a 21mg nicotine patch. 25 minutes later I was out cold for the next 10-14 hours. I had the most vivid dreams, often not very fun, occasionally experiencing lucidity but not often enough.

At the time I was working as a server and sommelier at a French restaurant. A co-worker of mine gave me a catalog from Bouncing Bear Botanicals. This was my first actual introduction to the world of entheogens and medicinal herbs. I found a plant called Calea Zachetechichi. It was said to be used by certain cultures for visionary dreaming. Nothing there was sold for consumption nor is. Anywayyyy, when I was 23, I ordered some and going hard, made tea with 3 grams of it. I slow boiled a cup of water to an amount small enough to swallow in a single gulp.

It tasted like rancid monkey-piss, or worse. Worst thing I have EVER tasted. EVER!

I had complete lucidity in all my dreams the following 3 nights. I still remember them. At one point I left my body, I could see my astral body as I do my own now, but I was standing with one astral leg of mine in my sleeping body, the other leg in the body of my girlfriend at the time. I looked at the clock and could read the numbers (a clear indicator of whether you’re in reality or a dream), it was 2:03 am. I laid my astral body back in my physical and resumed some awesome dreaming.

The following morning, my then girlfriend told me I entered her dream. She woke up briefly after. It was 2:07am. I had yet to tell her of my weird ass experience.

Point is Plants>RX meds and nicotine patches when your intention is lucid dreaming.

Iamshaman is a good source of Calea. (I’m neither sponsored nor endorsed by BBB or Iamshaman, they have no idea this article exists lol)

Happy Dreaming,
